FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS

Consumption will vary depending upon the condition of the animals, quality and quantity of forages being fed, weather conditions, and most importantly the feeding location of the tubs with respect to loafing, grazing, feeding, and watering areas.

Cattle will consume approximately 4 to 6 ounces per head daily based upon a 1,000 lb. animal. Tubs should be distributed at the rate of one tub per 20-25 head of cattle. Place the tubs where animals congregate (loafing, grazing, feeding, and watering areas). Feed the tubs continuously along with plentiful sources of forage and clean, fresh water. Provide free-choice salt at all times. When feedstuffs are limited, additional nutrients may be required. Contact your feed representative for specific recommendations.

INTRODUCTION PERIOD

During the first week of use, place the tubs approximately 100 feet from loafing and/or watering areas. As livestock become acclimated to the presence of the tubs, repositioning may be necessary to achieve proper consumption. Move tubs closer to increase, further away to decrease consumption. If overconsumption occurs for more than two weeks and repositioning does not correct the situation, remove tubs and evaluate the overall feeding program.
