Feed free to pre-weaning calves. Mature animals should not be allowed free choice access to this feed.
Creep feeds are used to best advantage when:
- Pasture or forage is in short supply or of poor quality.
- Cows are in poor condition and not milking adequately.
- Calf prices are good, and the price justifies the extra cost of creep.
- Creeping calves may assist in overall husbandry management.
Almost any creep feed designed for an unweaned calf should be placed where it is convenient to the calves but protected from or not accessible to the cows. For nursing calves, this creep pellet can be self-fed from a creep feeder or hand-fed at a predetermined level. Do not free-choice feed this pellet to adult animals or large calves that have been weaned.
