Colt Pittman – Winning with Friends in the Show Ring

When you ask Colt Pittman, 13 of Canadian, TX what he loves most about raising a show animal, he says “Always having a friend, and the friends I make along the way. I love going to shows and hanging out with my friends from all over the country. We all like to chip in and help get everyone’s chores done so we have more time to spend together.”

In addition to his friends, Colt has a great team in his family, his breeders John and Loretta Hall, and other Braunvieh enthusiasts. “It’s a challenge competing with a Braunvieh, because they don’t always fit the mold of other show cattle.” For Colt, the whole experience makes that challenge worth it. “I love raising cattle and seeing the new babies born every year.”

He first got interested in showing cattle by watching his big brother. As soon as she could, she jumped in the arena with her own animals. “Our family does the show projects as a team.”

This year, he purchased his winning heifer, Krystal, from J Bar Braunvieh in Hedley, TX. “She was still on her momma when I saw her, but I could tell she was an amazing heifer.” He says. Colt fed Hi-Pro Show Finisher to get ready for showing. “It’s a good complete feed ration that helps my cattle to be successful.”

Even with all the support and hard work, Colt admits to being nervous. “The grand drives are stressful, because I want so badly for my hard work to pay off.” He explains, “I was super excited when I found out we won Grand Champion Braunvieh heifer at San Angelo!”

In addition to showing livestock, Colt is a Hemphill County 4-H leader, a Junior Braunvieh Association National Director, and stays involved in his church and homeschool group. Most importantly to Colt, however, is giving back by volunteering at the county food bank and meals on wheels.

Hi-Pro Feeds is proud to support enterprising youth in agriculture. Congratulations to Colt Pittman! For more information on our Show feeds, click here.
